Exploring Edinburgh; Royal Botanical Gardens

Edinburgh is literally a city that has it all. It has the most incredible history, it has arts and culture, it has an amazing selection of restaurants representing cultures from all over the world. It's the Scottish capital, and maybe, big claim here, my favourite city in Scotland. There is just something about Edinburgh that is so magical and exciting. However I find it's easy to get caught up in doing the same things and visiting the same places, so when I went through this week to visit my best friend Bry, we decided to check out somewhere different that we hadn't been before.

For some reason the Botanical Gardens popped into my head, vaguely remembering going about 6 years ago for some sort of flower drawing activity with my school. I am so glad it did! The botanical gardens are only about a mile from the very centre of the city and it is quite a nice walk down there. With free entry we spent a really lovely couple of hours wandering around. Neither or us are particularly interested in gardening or botany however the collection of plants is truly impressive and there are plenty of information points to tell you a little bit more about each one.

The glasshouse structure was absolutely beautiful, however with an added fee to get inside we didn't feel the need. There were a couple of cafes dotted around the gardens as well where we stopped for a well needed rest. Perhaps the highlight has to be the viewpoint back over the city. We could not believe how far we had come and you could pick out almost all the Edinburgh sights from the Scott Monument to Arthurs seat. No photo would do the view justice so I didn't include one, however it is definitely worth checking it out!

If you have a couple of free hours in Edinburgh or are looking for something a little bit different to do then I would definitely recommend popping in to the Botanical Gardens. You could spend as little or as much time there as you wanted, as we definitely did not see everything.

Have you ever been to the Edinburgh Botanical Gardens? Are there are any beautiful gardens in your area? Let me know in the comments!

  1. This looks so beautiful. I love gardens, especially in the summer. I've also never been to Edinburgh but planning on going this year...this is being added to the bucket list!

    1. Ah yes it's definitely worth going to if you're in Edinburgh! Hope you manage to sort the trip, it's an amazing city! Thanks for reading :) xx

  2. The glasshouse is the best bit! it's definitely worth the extra fee. You're right there is so much to see and you could easily just wander around the grounds and cafes but if you get the chance to go back you should definitely go into the glasshouse.
