A Rainy Day In Durham

In my last post I talked about how much I love solo day trips, they give me confidence, I love exploring and they are generally just so much fun! If you haven't read it I would definitely say it acts as a good introduction to this post so check it out here!

I wanted to share some of the photos I took when I went on a mini adventure to Durham this week! it was actually only a couple of hours on the train from Edinburgh and as I booked my tickets in advance it ended up being £20 for a return which is fantastic! I do have a railcard, but there are so many good deals you can take advantage of if you book ahead.

Whilst in Durham I visited the cathedral which is absolutely beautiful and well worth buying the ticket to visit their Open Treasure exhibition - they had a copy of the 1216 Magna Carta which is pretty damn cool. I didn't go inside the castle which I do regret slightly as you have to go on a guided tour which at the time I didn't really fancy.

Wandering around the lanes and little cobbled streets it surprised me how small Durham actually was. All the independent shops were beautiful and everyone that I spoke to was so lovely and helpful! A lot of them were really surprised that I was there by myself too! In the afternoon after feeling like I had pretty much seen all of the city I went on a little walk, following the path beside the river as it curved round the peninsula. It took me around half an hour and really was a beautiful walk, even though it was raining it gave me a great chance to clear my head and feel some outdoorsy goodness.

One of the highlights though has to be the dreamiest pancakes which I had in a super cute café called Treats. It was recommended to me by a friend and I would definitely recommended it to you all! It was the perfect place for me to refuel and hide from the rain for a little while!

I'm not really in the mood for a big rambly post but I really wanted to share these photos with you all. Blogging is always a pretty therapeutic and relaxing thing for me to do and hopefully I'll get back in the groove soon.

Have you ever been to Durham? Let me know in the comments!!

XOXO

  7. I'm really trying to see more of the UK and Durham is definitely on my list! We're so lucky to have these beautiful historic towns in our own country, it seems a shame not to visit them!
