St Andrews Eats: The Westport

If you missed my first post in this mini "St. Andrews Eats" series, then check it out here for some tasty tapas and cool interiors! For my next post I want to talk about probably one of my favourite spots in St. Andrews, Westport. It is pretty much my go-to for any occasion, a birthday meal, a nice lunch, a date night (lol at me including this as if I have them often) or just some cocktails! I feel like you really do get a high quality of food for not that much more pricewise. So when W made a last minute trip through to St. Andrews to enjoy some sunshine, it really would have been rude not to treat ourselves to a nice lunch and a cocktail (or two or three....)

For our starter we shared Pig & Pudding which is described as "Oatmeal crusted pig cheek, black pudding, crispy tattie scone & apple jam" and oh my, isn't it just beautiful?! The potato scone was crispy although it was so good I wish it was a little bigger haha! For me the highlight of the dish has to be the beautiful gravy like sauce that came with it. Genuinely think I could have drunk it by the glass...

For my main I went for something rogue by my standards and picked a salad. I know, truly shocking I cannot believe I am typing this, but I was hooked by the description of "Warm Heritage Potato & Stornoway Black Pudding – Ayrshire bacon, heather honey & Arran grain mustard dressing." Basically all my favourite things in a salad and it was truly delicious! It was slightly bizarre having a warm salad with potatoes but the black pudding went perfectly with it and I will definitely be ordering this again if it is still on the menu. The combination of flavours was a new one for me and I loved it! The only thing was that perhaps the bacon was a little overcooked and was quite hard, but that's just my preference.

W went traditional and ordered "Fish & Chips" and while I can't provide a quote saying how great it was, he completely cleared his plate. The couple of chips I stole were lovely!

Drinks wise the Westport is always a winner. I picked one of the specials, which I think was called a Westport Cobbler. They are not the cheapest cocktails in town but I definitely think they are the best.

We sat outside as it was such a beautiful day however the inside seating areas are decorated in a modern and classy way, with different areas so you can sit in whatever style seating you fancy.

Let me know in the comments if there is anywhere you would like me to review next! Even if you don't live near St. Andrews hopefully you've enjoyed having a little nosy, because I know I certainly do!
