Back to University Goals

I love fresh starts. The idea that you have a clean slate and an opportunity to go out and just smash it. For me, the start of a new university semester is a bit of a funny one. I always just think that I want to do better than the semester before. Whether that be do better in coursework, speak up more in class or whatever, I just want to do a little better. However this semester I thought I would give myself something a little more concrete to work with and set myself some goals for the rest of the year. I do already feel quite motivated for the semester ahead, I think after my more of less year long break from academia in Germany has left me refreshed and ready for the next challenge.

Don't leave anything till the night before is potentially my main goal for the year. I only have classes on a Tuesday and then a couple of hours on a Thursday so there really is no excuse to not get things done in time. I am going to try and make a plan to do the work for my different classes in some form of regular time slots to get myself into a bit of a routine. It's going to be strange going from having class almost every day to only having it two days a week so I really am going to have to be organised.

Keep up a balanced diet basically means no late night post library chicken nuggets. I have been so good over Summer at trying out new foods and recipes so I really want to keep this up during the semester as well. Cooking balanced meals should be a priority and it's something I'm valuing more and more the older I get (lol im 21 not 51 could you tell?!)

Maintaining at least one blog post a week is also something I am determined to do. I love blogging and it is a great way to relax and writing is so therapeutic but I know I am probably going to really struggle to maintain it with the increase in workload. Harking back till goal one and I just have to be organised.

Staying FOMO free might sound like a weird goal to have but being away last year made me realise that I didn't need to be on every night out, go to every dinner or just try and stretch myself to be everywhere all at once. Cosy nights in are the way forward and I have definitely found this week that as much as I love seeing everyone again, I need the time by myself to balance it out.

Use my journals and diaries to their full potential as I always forget things if I don't write them down! I have so many diaries and academic diaries, blog notebooks and desk planners I want to use them all and try and minimise the amount I have to remember in my brain.

Attend more events even if I only know a couple of people going. There are so many societies and events to get involved with, I want to try and branch out a little more this year and try and go to some more relaxed ones. Whether it be a pub quiz (I LOVE a good pub quiz) or just networking, pushing myself outside my social circle is a great way to make new friends.

Apply for and get an internship is generally top of my to do list. I've refreshed my CV and it's finally the time to start applying for internships and researching the professional world a little more and I cannot wait to see what exciting opportunities lie ahead. Obviously this might change after my 1000th rejection, but right now I am feeling motivated and determined.

What are your goals for the upcoming semester? If you are not at school/university do you feel still feel like September is a bit of a fresh start? Let me know in the comments!
